23, 2007 everyone, even babies, required to have a passport. Government system
overwhelmed. Requirement date changed to Sept. 30, 2007, and people who have applied
for, but not yet received, their passport can still travel with new relaxed requirements.
Sept. 30, 2007 was the last day to travel with a proof of passport application.
On Oct. 1, 2007 everyone needed a passport again.
>LAND/SEA Phase: The
Jan. 1, 2008 passport requirement that was postponed until summer 2008 has now
been proposed to take full effect June 1, 2009. However, until then you will need
either: 1) a passport, or 2)
a passport card (applications now being taken for release in June 2008), or 3)
WHTI compliant document, 4) government issued
photo ID: drivers license and birth certificate (proof of citizenship).

get caught off guard and ruin your vacation. There are new passport laws you should
BE AWARE
of. The new US passport laws, and the requirements and effective dates
for a new passport, have been changing frequently.
As we predicted in 2007, the government passport process did bog down.....and
vacations were ruined.
As a result, the U.S. Government has made improvements and extended some enforcement
